Condensation & Mould Control
Black mould is more than an eyesore — it's a health hazard. And opening a window won't fix it. We install real solutions that control humidity and stop mould from coming back.

Why Condensation Is Such a Problem in Colchester Homes
Condensation occurs when warm, moisture-laden air meets a cold surface and the water vapour turns to liquid. Modern living generates large amounts of moisture — cooking, showering, drying clothes, even breathing. In poorly ventilated homes, that moisture has nowhere to go.
Draught-proofing and double glazing have made UK homes much more airtight — which is great for energy efficiency but terrible for ventilation. In Colchester's older housing stock, this combination creates exactly the conditions black mould needs: cold walls, poor air circulation, and high humidity.

The Health Risk
Black mould produces mycotoxins — toxic substances that, when inhaled, can cause or worsen respiratory conditions, allergies, and asthma. It poses the greatest risk to children, the elderly, and anyone with a compromised immune system.
If black mould is present in your property, treating it promptly is essential. Surface cleaning alone does not eradicate mould — the spores remain in the plaster and wall and will return within weeks unless the underlying humidity problem is resolved.
Signs You Have a Condensation Problem
- Black mould growing in corners, on window reveals, and behind furniture
- Condensation forming on windows and cold walls, particularly in winter
- Steamy or stuffy rooms that take a long time to clear
- Musty odours in bedrooms, bathrooms, or kitchens
- Wallpaper lifting or peeling at the edges
- Clothes or belongings stored in wardrobes becoming damp or musty
- Family members experiencing respiratory problems, allergies, or worsening asthma
Our Condensation & Mould Treatment Process
1Assessment & Diagnosis
We assess the ventilation patterns in your property, measure humidity levels, and identify the cold bridge surfaces where condensation is occurring. We distinguish condensation from damp caused by water ingress — a step that many get wrong.
2Mould Treatment & Removal
Existing mould is treated with professional-grade fungicidal solution to kill the spores at source. Surface mould removal alone is not enough — we treat the affected area to stop re-growth.
3Ventilation Improvement
We install appropriate ventilation — from positive input ventilation (PIV) units to extract fans and humidity-controlled vents — to provide continuous air movement and maintain healthy humidity levels throughout the property.
4Insulation Upgrades
Where cold walls and floors are creating condensation hotspots, we recommend and install insulation solutions — including underfloor insulation and internal wall insulation — to bring surface temperatures up and eliminate the conditions mould needs to grow.
Positive Input Ventilation (PIV)
A PIV unit is installed in the loft and gently supplies fresh, filtered air throughout your home, diluting and displacing the stale, moist air that causes condensation. It runs continuously, quietly, and uses very little energy.
PIV is one of the most effective and cost-efficient solutions for whole-house condensation control, particularly in houses where opening windows isn't practical.
